Personal blog · n.exts.chprogramminghardware
a glob of nerdishness is a personal blog at n.exts.ch about programming and hardware. Since 2012, 5 different Hacker News readers have linked it 5 times. The last post was in 2020, but the archive is still widely read.
Too few sampled comments (2) to say how often HN recommends it.?
Why HN links it
Linked posts cover AWS Glacier backup costs using real-world numbers for photo backups, and a timezone picker resource. Comments cite them as examples, not as praised writing.
Summarised by Claude from a sample of 2 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.
What Hacker News says?
I'm not seeing this at all for my use case. Unless I've figured it wrong, if I were to use this for an offsite backup of my photos, my ISP's Acceptable Use Policy limits my rate enough that I'm seeing only about a 10% penalty beyond normal transfer costs. See http://n.exts.ch/2012/08/aws_glacier_for_photo_backups for some sample "real-world" numbers.

HN discussionI don't think this has been true for a while now. For example, the most common timezone picker I see has multiple timezones listed per offset. Here's some examples: http://www.jqueryscript.net/time-clock/Easy-Timezone-Picker-... http://n.exts.ch/resource/post-30342bc1aac8ab98c817edee2b126... http://docs.telerik.com/devtools/aspnet-ajax/controls/schedu...
