Why HN links it
HN readers link these posts on indie game development: lessons from making a second game in LÖVE and Lua, and a development log for SNKRX that explains choosing a small scope.
Summarised by Claude from a sample of 4 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.
I’m an independent game developer and writer. Released artifacts: It Follows, SNKRX, BYTEPATH.

HN discussionAlso relevant: https://a327ex.com/posts/snkrx_log The developer talks specifically about choosing a small scope for a game, and clearly spends a lot of time thinking strategically about being an indie dev.

HN discussionI'd like to present a counterexample: SNKRX[1]. It costs 3€ and is under the MIT license, you can find it on github[2]. It sold >100,000 units[3], and AFAIK no one's massively undercut the author. I guess he's kind of undercutting himself by making it available on github, but I bet most people would rather pay 3€ and have nice steam features than download and compile a game off a site they likely don't know. And yes…
