Too few sampled comments (1) to say how often HN recommends it.?
Why HN links it
A commenter links this blog's xxHash benchmark page, which compares non-cryptographic hash speed against CRCs, in a discussion of hashing for finding duplicate files.
Summarised by Claude from a sample of 1 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.
What Hacker News says?
AFAIK CRCs are not the fastest "hashes" you can get. Some non-cryptographic hashes outperform crcs by a large factor and provide longer checksums and much better statistical properties.
