  3. In my opinion http://www.typesafe.com stack is the most powerful and consistent one running on JVM. Scala/Play/Akka/Slick/SBT speaks for itself and I enjoy every day of working with it.

  5. This is probably SBT's greatest weakness and Gradle's biggest strength, relatively. I've never run in to this personally, probably because I'm use Nexus[1] as a repository cache. My understanding is that the underlying problem is a limitation of the dependency resolution library they use, Ivy[2]. Gradle used to use this but at some point wrote their own dependency resolution library. There are some improvements in r…

  13. Yeah, historically the artifact resolution has been kind of slow if you have several sub projects. However, there was just a new release of SBT that added a bunch of improvements for this[1]. [1] http://typesafe.com/blog/improved-dependency-management-with...

  15. There are already builders out of China that you can approach for custom solutions. I also wouldn't expect Marvell or Intel(especially with their acquisition of Fulcrum Microsystems last year) to sit by idly. Another interesting thing we'll start to see is the use of concurrent programming languages by the established vendors to stay heavily involved and dare I say relevant? Juniper announced a few months back they…

  21. On http://typesafe.com you'll find plenty examples using the whole stack. When I was learning Scala I found http://twitter.github.io/scala_school/ best source to break into it. http://playframework.com is a good source of tutorials and docs for Play. http://akka.io is the home of Akka and http://slick.typesafe.com is Slick's website.

  23. Interestingly Scala 2.12 will have support for user defined types using function literals (it's actually in 2.11 behind a compiler flag). This feature is referred SAM (single abstract method) functions [1]. Also, there are plans to move tuples to something more like HLists. You can see it here[2] as part of 3 under 'Don Giovanni'. 27. This can be solved by minimizing blocking code, either by using actors (Erlang, Akka, etc) or just chaining callbacks on futures/promises and using monadic composition to avoid callback hell. For a concrete example, check out my Redis-based Twitter clone http://typesafe.com/activator/template/redis-twitter-clone , running at https://clockwork-semaphore.herokuapp.com/# .
