Albedo is the company blog at albedo.com, writing about science and hardware. Since 2021, 7 different Hacker News readers have linked it 12 times. No feed was found, so read it on the site itself.
Too few sampled comments (9) to say how often HN recommends it.?
Why HN links it
HN readers link Albedo's site and posts on its satellite imagery, VLEO mission postmortem, and 10cm licence. Commenters mainly dispute its resolution claims, with 40cm multispectral versus 10cm panchromatic.

No, but I'm close with Albedo who is pursuing the same strategy in vis and IR: https://albedo.com/

HN discussionI'm talking all up costs (cost to first pixels), so the cost to acquire a bus and payload then launch it vs buy a balloon with an imager payload and release it. Any comparable satellite right now is likely closer to hundreds of millions just due to necessary aperture size. A balloon launch for an imagery collect will run you under 30k all in, and you can reuse most of the system after you recover it. LEO is cheap bu…

HN discussionFounder/CEO of Albedo here. We published a detailed write-up of our first VLEO satellite mission (Clarity-1) — including imagery, what worked, what broke, and learnings we're taking forward. Happy to answer questions. https://albedo.com/post/clarity-1-what-worked-and-where-we-g...

on “Albedo: T+2 Weeks After Launch”Re: #1, isn't that 10cm only for Panchromatic (grey-scale). For what people care about, Multispectral (color), it's 40cm - which is considerably worse than what Google Earth provides. https://albedo.com/product-specs

on “Buy Hi-Resolution Satellite Images of Any Place on Earth”> Note: Our license, reflective of our satellite's capability, allows 10cm GSD panchromatic imagery and pan-sharpened imagery processed with 40cm GSD RGBN pixels. https://albedo.com/post/approved-for-10cm

on “Buy Hi-Resolution Satellite Images of Any Place on Earth”> The resolution is very poor. Technically you might be able to make out 50cm things as a pixel, but it’s blurry and has a lot of artefacts The CEO in this thread says they use Albedo for imagery. I feel like Albedo is way overselling their capabilities because it’s not real 10cm. It’s essentially computational photography taken at a way worse resolution (>30cm), and does a poor job computing a better image. If you…

on “Buy Hi-Resolution Satellite Images of Any Place on Earth”Two follow up questions. 1. Isn’t Albedo fake “10cm”. Meaning aren’t they using 50cm imagery and apply computations to it to “simulate” 10cm. The image on this blog post, when zoomed in is actually quite bad https://albedo.com/post/albedo-simulated-imagery 2. Can you explain why you mean when you say “most have incentivizes to keep selling to govt”. Are you implying they can’t work with you?
