Personal blog · afiestas.orgprogrammingsystems
Àlex Fiestas's personal blog at afiestas.org covers programming and systems. Since 2012, 4 different Hacker News readers have linked it 4 times. The last post was in 2018, but the archive is still widely read.
Too few sampled comments (3) to say how often HN recommends it.?
Why HN links it
HN readers link Àlex Fiestas's posts on KDE and Linux desktop internals, such as the Nepomuk/Strigi indexer, the KDE HUD app menu, and KScreen screen management. Commenters cite them as sources.
Summarised by Claude from a sample of 3 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.
What Hacker News says?
Nepomuk is not the indexer, Strigi is. And Strigi has inotify support AFAIK. EDIT: This is an older post, but I think it shows exactly that: http://www.afiestas.org/nepomuk-is-not-fast-is-instant/

HN discussionThere is for instance http://afiestas.org/appmenu-runner-meet-the-kde-hud/ , and I bet there are similar tools for Gnome. However, from what I heard of Unity, it seems to be a hell of a work to keep/maintain it running for all kind of programs (regarding the different UI toolkits).

on “System76 Developing “Cosmic” Desktop Environment”This is mostly blogspam for this: http://www.afiestas.org/screen-management-got-magic/ It's easy to be cynical about this, but I for one am very pleased about this development. So sorely needed. Perhaps in a small way it can help slow down the migration from Linux to Mac on the desktop.
