Why HN links it

Linked for posts on how GPU line rendering and line shaders work, and for a piece on the future of Python plotting and visualization. Commenters call these excellent and interesting reads.

Summarised by Claude from a sample of 3 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

OK now try to do this in 3D with arbitrary projections and interactivity! And guess what, you'd create a rendering engine :) My earlier reply has a link to how GPUs actually push pixels to the screen. There are also some excellent blog posts on how line rendering is done: https://almarklein.org/triangletricks.html https://almarklein.org/line_rendering.html

Not really. You can use widgets and redraw when the user changes something, but this gets clumsy quickly. Bokeh allows for interactive visualization though. Vispy[1] does to, by using webgl (but this require a running ipython kernel - so the plot will be static when exported to HTML). This[2] is an interesting blog post about the future of python plotting/visualization. [1] http://vispy.org/ [2] http://www.almarklei…
