Why HN links it

HN commenters link this blog for an alternative take on happiness, a described meditation method of attentiveness, and dissociation as mystics' advice, and cite it on climate-change group-think. Comments are links or quotes, not praise.

Summarised by Claude from a sample of 4 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

What Hacker News says?

  1. I find the word 'marvelling' more fitting to describe the childhood experiencing of "lots of things are amazing when you're a kid, stone, river, rain, sky, .." than 'contemplating' because the contemplation of Buddhism is a whole new ball game entirely (I find nothing childlike--much less naive--in withdrawing from the world of senses into a detached reality that forms the essence of meditative practices). As you wa…

  2. Before your comment (and mine) gets flagged to death, I wish to provide this information that might be of interest: https://actualfreedom.com.au/sundry/factsandgroupthink/globa... Yea, the climate change narrative is highly overblown, but it will take a few more years before the overtone window shifts for larger swaths of people in power to accept it.

  5. People rarely acknowledge that a significant portion of their identity is a result of social conditioning (or indoctrination as you bluntly put it in another comment). The act of seeking of approval, in particular, is the persistently amorphous result of a society shaping/ strengthening/ controlling the underlying instinctual passions (of fear and desire and nurture) over decades. Most people even in individualistic…

  7. You are welcome. It is part of what is known as the "actualism method" (that I am putting into practice for many years now) as described here: http://www.actualfreedom.com.au/richard/articles/thismomento... Mindfulness is actually 180 degrees opposite, as it leads to a form of (acute) emotional distancing. Having done Vipassana in the past I can also say that from experience.
