What Hacker News says?
Yes, I just started this month with a paid account ($1 a month) and it's basically what medium was supposed to be - custom urls and rss. See the dead simple layout: https://kemendo.com/ I do wish they allowed email subscriptions but from what I understand that is coming soon. I also don't love the "published with write.as" text at the bottom of every page for paid accounts but that's no big deal.

HN discussionCapitalism (an economic system based on the private ownership of the means of production and their operation for profit) was invented prior to written history so the reformation only exists in the context of private property being a core assumption of society. That assumption is NEW in the history of humanity, the concept of "property" has only existed for about 50,000 years The protestant reformation then was an at…

HN discussionThere are contradictory criteria here: "The theory has given rise to the construction of a consciousness-meter that is being tested in various clinics in the U.S. and in Europe. The idea is to detect whether seriously brain-injured patients are conscious, or whether truly no one is home... but the consciousness-meter tells us that about a fifth of them remain conscious, in line with brain-imaging experiments." The c…

on “Reddit appears to be restoring edited/deleted comments”Community activists have been saying his for millennia but it’s not possible. Like literally every “prophet” as said almost exactly this since pahotep ( https://kemendo.com/WOPFirstPrint.pdf ) I’ve personally started a half dozen different communities over the last 20 years. some last longer than others but almost none last beyond the moment leaders stop putting effort into them, which is the fate of every community…

on “If we do not stop to help each other, what do we become?”To your question on property: The claim that the idea of private property ownership is universal is just incorrect. Proudhon famously deconstructed the concept mathematically: https://www.marxists.org/reference/subject/economics/proudho... (You can ignore the fact that it's on a Marxist site - Proudhon and Marx were not friends and had bitter disagreements - but unfortunately and unsurprisingly Marx's "Communism" go…

on “Limitarianism: The Case Against Extreme Wealth”This matches my hypothesis on Deja vu https://kemendo.com/Deja-Vu-Experiment.html I think it also supports my three loops hypothesis as well: https://kemendo.com/ThreeLoops.html In effect, my position is that biological systems maintain a synchronized processing pipeline: where the hippocampal prediction system operates slightly “ahead” of sensory processing, like a cache buffer. on “The coming long-run slowdown in corporate profit growth and stock returns [pdf] (2023)”This answers a lot of questions for me. I was obsessed with Tetris from 2018-2021, specifically NES Tetris (because I grew up with it) to the point that my Max score on a NES CRT was 943252(1) on level 28, with DAS. Not long ago I got a C-PTSD diagnosis, oddly cause I was able to finally see the situation I used to be in, and that was during a hard decade which included 2019-2021 I got out of that situation and have…

on “Tetris shows promise in reducing PTSD symptoms”Claude did a pretty good quality job explaining Retrieval Augmented Generation to me [1]: A choice quote: "The RAG model needs to retrieve memories that are relevant for the generation task, not just any random memories. It does this through two mechanisms: Memory indexing: The retrieved memories are indexed in a latent space, where similar memories are close together and dissimilar memories are far apart. The RAG m…

on “Claude 2”The term Artificial Intelligence was coined in 1955 for the Dartmouth Summer Research Project on Artificial Intelligence. on “The evolution of effective altruism”Yes you nailed it! Thanks for the thoughtful response. > I just don’t think it’s a realistic expectation to expect this at the global scale. This is exactly my point. We dont have the biology for it - mammals don’t have eusocial traits because we’re too complex and egocentric, to the extent that game theoretic defections are individually risky but can have individual benefits.
