Too few sampled comments (1) to say how often HN recommends it.?
Why HN links it
Linked as a post on building an asynchronous zsh prompt so that version control info does not slow the shell. One commenter says zsh already supports this directly through vcs_info.
Summarised by Claude from a sample of 1 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

What Hacker News says?
Seems like an overcomplicated solution to something zshell supports directly :) A lot of themes don't use vcs_info to get this information, and consequently take time. I'm not sure what other types of information you would want to show that would take a long time to load. http://arjanvandergaag.nl/blog/customize-zsh-prompt-with-vcs...
