  7. > Never knew why it bombed in the marketplace. Bombed? RISC OS machines sold for some 15 years in the face of growing competition from Windows and Linux. Acorn chose to shut it down and span off ARM. Castle Technologies continued selling it and made a new 32-bit-clean version and new hardware for it. RISC OS Developments bought Castle and made RISC OS Apache-licensed FOSS. The OS is still alive and in development ne…

So they were already familiar with ARM before they even started building ARM CPUs As a co-founder of Advanced RISC Machines Ltd, Apple had a history with ARM dating back to 1990 at least: > Arm was officially founded as a company in November 1990 as Advanced RISC Machines Ltd, which w…

  13. Apple was a co-founder of Arm [0]. "Arm was officially founded as a company in November 1990 as Advanced RISC Machines Ltd, which was a joint venture between Acorn Computers, Apple Computer (now Apple Inc.), and VLSI Technology (now NXP Semiconductors N.V)." I'm not sure of their exact licensing terms, but I'm sure as a co-founder they're favourable. [0] - https://newsroom.arm.com/blog/arm-official-history
