What Hacker News says?
US crude is sold at market prices and is NOT specifically dependent on Saudi Arabia supply increases (e.g. another oil producer could cut production and zero out that increase). Also, the price fell long BEFORE Saudi Arabia increased production (about a year). This was due to excess supply and why Saudi Arabia tried to cut production in 2014. http://www.artberman.com/wp-content/uploads/Chart_Market-Bal... https://yc…

on “U.S. oil production to be equal to Russia plus Saudi Arabia by 2025”This is a guy who claimed that 3.5 degrees of global warming was "optimal". He was absolutely delusional and built his models on preposterous assumptions. He did a vast amount of damage to the world by providing false justifications for climate denial and inaction on climate change. The fossil fuel companies must have loved him. "when Nordhaus looked at the effects of 6 C warming, he did not forecast horror. Instead…

on “William Nordhaus has died”Smoke & mirrors. Art Berman has shown that none of the Tight&Shale producers are/has been profitable. They are largely there because of credit/debt (which of course can't grow for ever) "Tight oil companies outspend cash flow by an average of 120%: spend $2.20 for every dollar earned from operating activities." "Tight oil company debt-to-cash from operating activities ratio averages 3.3: would take more than 3 years…

on “Oil soars 6 percent as OPEC reaches deal to limit output in November”Given that demand growth has outstripped discoveries, how is it that we've continued to grow production for these last 40 years? The answer lies in the metric "proven reserves" - oil that we have the technology to recover today - which has outpaced production increases over the last 40 years ( https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3866387/figure/... ), leaving us with 50 years of production at today's rates,…
