What Hacker News says?
That's kind of like I do it [1], I only have a RSS file and the mp3 uploaded to the server. I send that RSS link to that one iTunes service so it indexes the RSS file so that all the podcast apps which use their API for their search can find my podcast and subscribe to the RSS file on my server and download the mp3's from my server. For the gear, I went fairly cheap, I got a Zoom H5 [2], which is super small, light…

HN discussionThis. These are largely mixing decisions, although it would be kinda weird to have a whispering actor boosted to sound as loud as a train in a scene. The technical term for this is “Dialogue LRA” measured in LU: https://s3.amazonaws.com/izotopedownloads/docs/insight200/en... - this link also mentions some of the standards around this and now to use their software to adhere to those standards. LUFS is also relevant h…

HN discussionWow! Thank you so much! You are right, I need to get ASAP a copywriter. I'm curious why the Subscription + Onetime Credit is bad. But I agree it is confusing. My understanding is that not every customer wants or needs a subscription, since they upload podcasts irregularly. This business model is seen in other AI products: https://www.remove.bg/pricing https://auphonic.com/pricing I am very grateful, you took the tim…

HN discussionReminds me of https://auphonic.com/ Their pricing is also similar, but Auphonic allows both subscription and prepaid "credits".

HN discussionI think another big factor in podcasts getting more popular these days is that the content and quality of podcasts are getting better. Today you don't need equipment and staff only radio stations can afford to produce high quality good sounding content. A computer with an USB mic and Audacity together with a tool like Auphonic [1] are enough to get good sound. The internet makes it easier to research stuff and prepa…

on “Voice Isolator: Strip background noise for film, podcast, interview production”For all practical reasons I'd say yes, I'm using https://auphonic.com/ which does use machine learning to mute the parts where no human speaks, then they send this audio to third party (like yours) https://auphonic.com/blog/2016/12/02/make-podcasts-searchabl... then they get the files back so auphonic can bundle it for download with the rest.

on “Show HN: Podscripter – Automated Transcription for Podcasters”This is a nice idea as there is a huge void left after RailsCasts hasn't gotten new episodes for a long time. What's a little bit negative is the sound quality of the screencasts, it's really, really bad. It would be a really important improvement if you got a proper studio microphone and did some audio post-processing (I recommend https://auphonic.com/ for this kind of stuff, it's magic what they do).

on “GoRails – Ruby on Rails screencasts for web developers”For super low bitrate speech, (1.44MB/30 minutes is 6.4kbps), codec2 is better than Opus, and can go to even lower bitrates. When combined with WaveNet, the audio quality is incredible , though required compute power is ridiculous. https://auphonic.com/blog/2018/06/01/codec2-podcast-on-flopp...

on “Floppycasts – 1.44MB Podcasts”I'm currently working on a 2HD 3.5 inch floppy disk release of a podcast episode which has taken me down an interesting rabbit hole of low-bitrate audio codecs, floppy disk aesthetics and label design. The episode I'm releasing is 1h40m long, which sounds like it couldn't possibly fit in 1.44MB, but there's an obscure but free codec mostly used by digital HAM radio enthusiasts called Codec2 [1] which can encode huma…

on “The floppy disk music scene”>maybe use a multi-track recording software and then adjust each speaker's track to match volume. Or just a compressor/limiter on the whole shebang will do a good job of normalizing the audio levels. http://auphonic.com/blog/2011/07/25/loudness-normalization-a... http://www.hometracked.com/2008/04/20/10-myths-about-normali...
