I'm in a similar situation. I'm having to learn linear algebra, calc, basic prob, and brush up on all of my holes in between. I haven't found a direct path, however. What has helped me is this deep learning book[0] which has spelled out very plainly what I need to learn. From there I use a combination of math is fun[1], better explained[2] and 3blue1brown. math is fun really helps by just giving you examples and defin…

  3. Summer of 1980, going into my senior year in high school, I mentioned I'd be taking Calculus next year to a co-worker a couple years older than I. He said he had the best book in the world on Calculus, and he loaned me his copy of Silvanus P Thompson's Calculus made easy . I thoroughly enjoyed that book, benefited from its intuitive explanations, and forever appreciated his recommendation. If I may similarly influen…

  7. > And if the audience, who includes both students and teachers, isn't qualified to judge the quality of the work, who exactly is? Again, it is very unfortunate, but on the average, high school teachers wouldn't be. For starters, linear algebra (where multiplication belongs) simply isn't taught at high-school level. It is not in the standard math curriculum in any state. Bits and pieces of linear algebra, like teachi…

As others have mentioned, many introductions to linear algebra / matrix multiplication only gives the student a formula, but not why the formula looks like it does. Why is matrix multiplication not pointwise, was something I had a hard time understanding. Better explained has a good article on this, that really made it click for me https://betterexplained.com/articles/linear-algebra-guide/

This is a slightly different response from others, but I think fits the intent of the question: The Better Explained Guide to Calculus: https://betterexplained.com/calculus/ Kalid basically iterates the series around the concept of deriving the formula for the area/perimeter of a circle, and then builds up to deriving the surface area/volume of a sphere. The focus throughout is the building up of an intuition of cal…

I have really enjoyed reading some of the better explained pages. I wouldn't recommend most people start on calculus on that site, but since you requested it specifically here's the overview: https://betterexplained.com/guides/calculus/

  23. > when people talk about safety, it does matter in Rust, right? I'm not sure I would make this about languages. Different languages have different advantages, but there's always a trade-off, right? For example, this `cp` issue is a bit of a problem for the coreutils rewrite[0]. I think you gotta ask the question: what benefit does rewriting in rust provide? Potentially more safety, but also something like coreutils…

Kalid, I have a question, but first a compliment :) I am enamored with this site. It validates a lot of my learning approaches and is helping me now when I was asking some of these 'how to learn' questions. Thank you!
