Why HN links it
HN readers link this blog for its Raspberry Pi boot-time optimisation posts, such as getting a Pi 3 to boot a Qt app in under 2 seconds, and for an explanation of the Pi's multiple boot stages.

What Hacker News says?
Is that 4sec delay something introduce in the pi 4 or 5? At least one guy got the 3 to boot to a Qt app in 2.8 seconds: https://www.furkantokac.com/rpi3-fast-boot-less-than-2-secon...

HN discussionTwo other good articles on decreasing Pi boot times are: - https://www.furkantokac.com/rpi3-fast-boot-less-than-2-secon... - http://himeshp.blogspot.com/2018/08/fast-boot-with-raspberry... I used these two to make a digital photo frame with a Pi that boots very quickly to a browser in kiosk mode. If you have very minimal requirements, you can get some very impressive boot times.

HN discussionYeah, it's more than just graphics. Here's an interesting blogpost that kinda explains the multiple boot stages: https://www.furkantokac.com/rpi3-fast-boot-less-than-2-secon...

on “How is the free firmware for the Raspberry progressing?”Super sweet! I didn't read the whole manual I linked above, but I think the way the original VT52 handled scrolling was that it incremented a register which it used for the index of the starting line. The microprogram was responsible for poking each new character into the character generator at the right moment 80 times for each of 240 scan lines, so it looked at this register each time it started drawing the screen…

on “Adam74: A terminal for a small 8-bit computer”> However, Linux boot times are atrocious, in the 30 second range. That's wrong. It takes time to optimize it but as long as you're willing to make the effort and don't have too much dependencies you can strip a lot of stuff to make it really quick e.g.: https://www.furkantokac.com/rpi3-fast-boot-less-than-2-secon... Not sure if you can do this easily on OPIZ since it's a RPi clone it might be less open
