HN discussionI bet that if the Docker and Kubernetes ecosystem was born today, Rust would be used instead. We are already seeing the transition happening, e.g. Deis Labs: https://deislabs.io/posts/still-rusting-one-year-later/ > Given the team’s background in many Go projects, we often hear something like this: “Well, what about Go? Do you regret moving to Rust? What do you miss from Go?” Addressing this in the context of our di…

HN discussionSad news, but I'm not surprised with this. The complete ecosystem was "killed" (if that can be said) with K8s buzz and hipsterism (sorry guys, but I see K8s as Hadoop/BigData of modern days - a solution from a huge company that has no place in 90% setups). Alternatives like Deis [2] moved to K8s a long time ago. My favorite tool for some time, Rancher [3], did that as well. I've been using Dokku [1] for a few years…

HN discussionActually Rust in what concerns Microsoft. https://deislabs.io/posts/still-rusting-one-year-later/ I should also note that after creating the initial support for Go on VSCode, they have given it away to Google to maintain it.

HN discussionAre you aware of Hephy Workflow by any chance? (Neé Deis Workflow) If so, are you aware of the Porter project which is built on CNAB, (by I believe many of the same folks?) https://deislabs.io/ I am with Team Hephy, and for the record I think this is super cool what you've done. I just think it's an awfully great coincidence that the name is so close to something else so nearby in the same space!

HN discussionPlugins and other software that one might feel like customising. https://landscape.cncf.io/ As always, using the platform language is the best road to avoid additional development costs dealing with interoperability and tier 2 compatibility issues. Although some stuff is now happening in Rust as well, https://deislabs.io/

HN discussionWhat cloud? It has been all about Java and .NET over here, with Rust being the new darling. https://deislabs.io/posts/still-rusting-one-year-later/ If you mean docker and kubernetes, docker is on the way out, the only thing left the image format, and just like Deislabs there are other CNCF members having new projects being done in Rust instead.

HN discussionMeanwhile on the field, https://deislabs.io/posts/still-rusting-one-year-later/ I gather you are aware of Deis Labs history, Microsoft acquisition and such, do you want other CNCF companies that have pivoted into Rust?

HN discussionThat was the past, helped by Kubernetes and Docker respective decisions to migrate from Java and Python into Go. Plenty of them are still Java and .NET based, as the ecosystems counter reacted to Go's adoption hype, and Rust is the new kid on the block specially for cloud native Webassembly projects and eBPF. Like Helm creators nowadays doing mostly Rust, https://deislabs.io/posts/
