  7. Actually, it was a mix. Robert Bosch did not trust his family or board to run a sustainable business for long, but he also really was having some altruistic ideals. [0] https://www.bosch.com/stories/origin-robert-bosch-stiftung/

  9. I remember stumbling across a bunch of pictures of Bosch getting a brand new IBM System/370-165 mainframe circa 1970 that were pretty great. I especially liked how all the IBM installers were doing manual labor with their ties on. link: https://www.bosch.com/stories/ibm-mainframe-computer-history... but I swear I saw more pictures somewhere.

  12. The problem nowadays is that pragmatism and conservatism are a victim of popular propaganda and emotional overreactions. My theory about this is based on economic and societal differences between countries. In high developed countries, with functioning or semi-functioning social security systems, people can afford to think more liberally even in socialistic views. For underdeveloped countries, especially Eastern Eur…

  15. Volvo, Citroen and many others besides extensively adopted the Bosch fuel injection system and those cars performed better and were more fuel efficient than their equivalents without. Quite a few of them still run today, the big difference in price is what held back faster adoption more than anything else. Some vehicles have this as a “battery starter generator” where the “hybrid” functionality is entirely on the accessory belt. https://www.bosch.com/stories/48v-hybrid-battery/ https://hackaday.com/2025/01/24/bosch-starter-motor-free…

  19. Oh, Bosch makes all kinds of things. Bosch's logo is something like a sparkplug (the thing used in internal combustion engines). To this day, the 'mobility' division is the biggest one. See https://www.bosch.com/stories/creation-of-the-bosch-logo/ Decades ago I actually had an offer to work for them as a research student working on optimising internal combustion engines.
