What Hacker News says?
Yup - it was the same for me with the 2016 SE. Still runs perfectly fine, we're still doing the same old CRUD web shit for apps, but apparently now our apps are so much more advanced that there's no possible way they could keep supporting that "legacy" hardware. https://blog.bschwind.com/2025/01/11/the-original-iphone-se-...

HN discussionI used the iPhone SE 1 until January of this year, it was such a great phone and a great form factor. I wrote an article about it to send it off: https://blog.bschwind.com/2025/01/11/the-original-iphone-se-...

HN discussionI'm an electronics amateur, got a question here: I use a PN2222 [1] transistor to switch a 5V supply through an infrared LED from a microcontroller. It works, but should I be using something better/smaller/more cost effective/more appropriate for the circuit [2]? [1] https://blog.bschwind.com/2016/05/29/sending-infrared-comman... [2] https://blog.bschwind.com/2016/05/29/sending-infrared-comman... (the resistor in th…

HN discussionNice writeup! I'm going to be decoding a variety of air conditioner remotes in the future so this will be a good reference. If anyone is interested in the process of reverse engineering an infrared remote from "I have a raspberry pi and some electronics" to "I can decode and encode infrared signals to control my stuff", I have an article on that: https://blog.bschwind.com/2016/05/29/sending-infrared-comman... There…

HN discussionAlmost 10 years ago (damn...) I reverse engineered my air conditioner IR protocol and wrote a lengthy article about it. That being said, I was new to electronics and was doing it all on a raspberry pi instead of something embedded. Since then I've also made an ESP32 version, and many others have as well. If you're interested in more of the actual reverse engineering part, I tried to explain it from more of a beginne…

HN discussionI just "upgraded" to a 13 mini last year, after being on the original SE for so long. Wrote a little post about it here: https://blog.bschwind.com/2025/01/11/the-original-iphone-se-...

on “Apple Introduces iPhone 17e”Awhile ago I made an remote infrared sending tool so a raspberry pi can control my A/C unit https://blog.bschwind.com/2016/05/29/sending-infrared-comman... Since then I made a much slimmer, cheaper, more efficient version based on the ESP32 but I haven't written up much about that. I also created my own keyboard with firmware in Rust https://github.com/bschwind/key-ripper I've done a bunch of other small one-off pro…
