What Hacker News says?

  1. Mercurial uses a DAG just like git. It has facilities for embedding a branch name in each commit, or for not doing that and having anonymous branches. It also has a feature similar to git's "branches" Two articles that might help if you really want to dig into it: http://stevelosh.com/blog/2009/08/a-guide-to-branching-in-me... https://bryan-murdock.blogspot.com/2013/06/git-branches-are-...

  7. Does this explanation help? http://bryan-murdock.blogspot.com/2022/12/git-rebase-explain... Rebase is really a merge (actually one merge per commit you are rebasing). At least it should be. With mercurial it really seems to be. With git I'm not so sure because it feels like it's always worse at resolving conflicts than mercurial. I haven't tested it thoroughly or looked at the implementations

  9. Wow. I've written about how powerful revision control tools become not just a place to stash diffs, but a full-on code editing tool ( http://bryan-murdock.blogspot.com/2010/09/mercurial-is-teh-a... ), but this is very impressive. I think he mentions that he does test these new commits that he creates as he goes about re-arranging history, but I think that should be emphasized more. I'd rather have a messy looking co…

  13. The way the safety concerns are written, I get the impression it has more to do with humans' mental health and loss of values. I really think we are building manipulation machines. Yes, they are smart, they can do meaningful work, but they are manipulating and lying to us the whole time. So many of us end up in relationships with people who are like that. We also choose people who are very much like that to lead us.…
