What Hacker News says?

  1. I'm doing a series on concurrency models at the moment for personal professional development, and I recently reviewed Clojure and its native ability to separate identity from state. It's a very properties-based and specifications-based language, and the thing about properties and specifications of languages are that they're nigh impossible to retrofit at a later point in time. Other languages need to have external t…

  3. I would say I have a beginners understanding of Haskell (proof: https://bytes.yingw787.com/posts/2020/01/30/a_review_of_hask... ) and IMHE Haskell is an academic research language for good reason. For most software, the SDLC is a stream, not tightly scoped like a library or utility. I haven’t seen migration or upgrade plans, docs aren’t really there, links rot extensively, and the strangeness budget is a blank check…

  5. Hey thanks for commenting! I checked out pykka in a previous blog post about actor models: https://bytes.yingw787.com/posts/2019/02/02/concurrency_with... I did a deep dive on thespian instead, I think it’s used at scale by GoDaddy. One of the issues I ran into with both libraries is that there’s not much of an OTP-like library built on top of them, which makes them difficult for production usage.

  7. I actually wrote a monad tutorial last year: https://bytes.yingw787.com/posts/2019/12/06/monads/ After reading about monads...honestly no, there is no way to simplify it. Without understanding the type system, it’s alien.
