Why HN links it
HN readers link this blog for a 30-years-later critique of the remote procedure call paradigm and a post on writing a file system from scratch. One commenter calls the RPC critique worth reading.
Summarised by Claude from a sample of 2 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

HN discussionI think worth reading is "A Critique of the Remote Procedure Call Paradigm - 30 years later" ( https://blog.carlosgaldino.com/a-critique-of-the-remote-proc... ), as well as Tanenbaum's original paper: https://www.cs.vu.nl/~ast/Publications/Papers/euteco-1988.pd... . Sure, it's old, but still very relevant. gRPC does better against his criticisms than the likes of JSON-RPC does.
