cool - there's a lot of overlap with the "Hypermodern Python"[1] so if anyone enjoyed this and wants to read more, they might also enjoy that. [1]: https://cjolowicz.github.io/posts/hypermodern-python-01-setu...

  5. After reading this guide I would still recommend people to use this guide. https://cjolowicz.github.io/posts/hypermodern-python-01-setu... It's great for beginners and experts. As a long time python veteran it completely changed how I work with python for the better. It is lengthy with lots of optional steps. Just skip the ones you don't find relevant.

  9. I haven't used pip directly in years. Lots have changed in the Python eco system and I feel like using pip (directly) for dependency management has it's writing on the wall. https://cjolowicz.github.io/posts/hypermodern-python-01-setu...

  11. I also insist on poetry for any python modules or applications. If it's going to support multiple versions of python then throw pyenv in for development and cicd. If your new to poetry and pyenv I can't recommend https://cjolowicz.github.io/posts/hypermodern-python-01-setu... enough. Even with 10 years python experience it changed how I work with it for the better.

I have seen the Hypermodern Python series of blog posts referenced here a few times. I'm a big fan of that approach personally. I'd also be curious what others recommend! https://cjolowicz.github.io/posts/hypermodern-python-01-setu...

  15. About a year ago or so I moved to pyenv and poetry. I have used python for over 10 years it was a game changer. I recommend this guide if your still using pip and venv. https://cjolowicz.github.io/posts/hypermodern-python-01-setu...

  16. I felt the same way about only needing requirements.txt until I managed a project that needed to be compatible across many versions of python and some of it's dependencies were renamed from one version to another. I highly recommend you take a look at the hypermodern python guide https://cjolowicz.github.io/posts/hypermodern-python-01-setu...
