What Hacker News says?

  1. I wasn't aware of Gigalixir, thanks for mentioning that. Looks very promising. I've been hosting my site at https://clever-cloud.com with good results. I've been using Docker there but they just added beta Phoenix support which makes it really easy. They're French, and I'm in the US. So there have been time zone issues and support has been a bit lackluster at times, but generally they've fixed all the issues I've br…

  3. Very simple: you need to get higher level of service, instead of paying for servers you need to pay for up-time. It's what PaaS, managed service or serverless does : manage server for you, at scale. To have something online you need: - servers - VM/OS management - Scalability system - monitoring (hardware, OS, applicative & functional) - action on monitoring and escalation management - update every weeks - observabi…

  11. For EU-based PaaS, check out Clever Cloud. They are based in Nantes, France and have servers in France (Paris, Roubaix) and Poland (Warsaw), and other locations outside the EU. I host my Node.js apps & databases (PostgreSQL, Redis) there and their GitOps is smooth. https://www.clever-cloud.com/

  19. I'd definitely recommend http://clever-cloud.com/ It scales automaticaly, analyzing the resource you need on your server, and you only pay what you use, like electricity. It supports actually PHP, Scala, Ruby, Java, Node JS, and it's still upgrading. Also they have deployed PostgreSQL, MySQL, CouchBase and they are working on MongoDB integration, and ElasticSearch as well. This company is pretty young, so they have…
