Code and Life is a personal blog at codeandlife.com about programming and hardware. Since 2012, 9 different Hacker News readers have linked it 9 times, most often “Benchmarking Raspberry Pi GPIO Speed”. It is still writing: the last post was on 2026-08-31, and you can follow it by feed.
Too few sampled comments (4) to say how often HN recommends it.?
Why HN links it
HN readers link Code and Life for Raspberry Pi and Arduino-related material, including a benchmark of Raspberry Pi speed, a V-USB tutorial, and the Raspberry Pi GPIO rate discussion.
Summarised by Claude from a sample of 4 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

HN discussionFor those curious: Atmel AVR Microcontrollers are commonly sold as Arduino. Some chips (not ATMega 328P but ATMega 32U4) have native support for USB. This allows them to be used as USB HID devices: a keyboard and mouse. Here is someone else's tutorial: https://codeandlife.com/2012/02/11/v-usb-tutorial-continued-... And a shameless plug for an app that I wrote that uses an Arduino to turn your laptop into a keyboard…

HN discussionhttp://codeandlife.com/2012/07/03/benchmarking-raspberry-pi-... I was wondering this too, but I never took the time to find out what this guys numbers could translate to in terms of actual throughput.

HN discussion> and each cycle on an RPi at 900Mhz is 1.1ns Its not the CPU's clock that matters here. https://codeandlife.com/2012/07/03/benchmarking-raspberry-pi... With 14MHz best-case from the Rasp. Pi, its clear that the GPIO clocks are simply at a slower rate than the CPU. Also, with C, you can achieve the highest possible GPIO rate on the Rasp. Pi. No need to go into an alternative OS.
