Too few sampled comments (7) to say how often HN recommends it.?
Why HN links it
HN readers link this blog's benchmark posts on PHP, fork/vfork and OpenSSH cipher speed, citing its figures as performance data.

Welcome to famzah's blog - a place where I'll share IT and hardware know-how which I recently acquired, and also some personally interesting stuff which may be useful for the public. The main purpose is that you learn something new here, or that I just save you some time on doing an IT, hardware or…

Wow. Is this comment from 2003? Uh. Why don't turn on opcache [1]? PHP7 is fast. Real fast [2]. http://php.net/manual/en/intro.opcache.php https://blog.famzah.net/2016/02/09/cpp-vs-python-vs-perl-vs-...

HN discussionPerformance? You need to update your act. PHP7 is 3x faster than python and now faster than Java 8 . The only people that can call php slow are masochistic c++ web hacks. https://blog.famzah.net/2016/02/09/cpp-vs-python-vs-perl-vs-...

HN discussion> Fork with cow is inefficient. > Compared to what? vfork() > Any numbers on that? I added links to the gist, some of which discuss performance in detail. E.g., https://blog.famzah.net/tag/fork-vfork-popen-clone-performan... and https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=682922 But you can just reason about this: - vfork() is O(1) - copying fork() is O(N) where N is the amount of writable memory in the parent's add…

HN discussionI hate to be "that guy" but I see no reason not to use PHP for all three of those things. PHP is faster than Ruby. [1] PHP from a local script does math just fine. It's the round trip of the request to a PHP server and back that you're associating with poor language performance. In a local scripting environment PHP7 is considerably faster than Python3. [2] PHP is an extremely popular language as the backend for SaaS…

on “Taking PHP Seriously (2016)”Caveats: I've used Redis once over an ssh tunnel (over a domestic internet connection that's everything but fast, it's a long story...). It is slow (as in agonizingly slow), even for a couple of queries, probably not redis fault, still. One thing you really want to do in this case (described in the article) is to carefully select the encryption protocol for one that uses the least CPU or has the best data rate. See:…
