Why HN links it

HN readers link Cosmonic's blog for WebAssembly engineering, including a post on the component model, and for "Write the Right Code", a piece on developer frustration with industry work.

Summarised by Claude from a sample of 5 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

What Hacker News says?

  1. I relate 100%. Everyone at my current job is sick of the soul-crushing work as a software developer that people just accept as part of the job. The side projects are so fun, we just want to do that for our real job. We call it "Write the Right Code", and I'll shamelessly drop the post since I'm curious if this is the same pain you feel. https://cosmonic.com/blog/write_the_right_code/ . Maybe software engineering can…

  7. I work quite a bit with CNCF wasmCloud ( https://wasmcloud.com/ ) and that project wouldn't exist without NATS. You can think of wasmCloud as a distributed compute lattice using WebAssembly on the server for providing the compute and NATS to provide the interconnectivity between your various WebAssembly modules. NATS certainly has its quirks, but I can't recommend it highly enough if you need any sort of pub/sub or…

  9. Owner of the purposefully controversial opinion here :) Looks like its proven to be very controversial, which was the stated goal of the podcast segment :) For context, I had just returned from KubeCon + CloudNativeCon EU in Amsterdam. I had a chance to talk to many of the great folks pushing the WASM ecosystem forward, and there certainly seemed to be a large amount of momentum behind using WASM in the server space…

  11. > homomorphic and secure way A lot of the sandboxing and security focus in Wasm makes sense. But the "capability-based security" mentioned at WASI spec [0] confuses me. For instance, when looking to what Cosmonic (an early adopter in Wasm fields) documents as capabilities [1] (e.g. 'messaging', 'http client', 'key-value store') it seems wholly different to concepts from the E programming language [2] by Mark S. Mill…

  13. This is an interesting project. The docs mention WebAssembly as a target on the Web side. And I wonder if there are plans to go further on this Wasm track. With Component Model and WASI maturing, polyglot component-oriented development also is within reach. A lot of this is working today. As example look at wasmCloud [0] actor-based application framework which also separates business logic from capabilities / NFR's…
