Why HN links it

Linked mainly for its blog posts on mouse recording, email popups and conversion rates, and cited as a heatmap and click-tracking tool. Few comments judge the writing itself.

Summarised by Claude from a sample of 16 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

Use Crazy Egg to see what's hot and what's not, and to know what your web visitors are doing with tools, such as heatmaps, recordings, surveys, A/B testing & more.

What Hacker News says?

  1. From https://www.w3.org/People/Berners-Lee/FAQ.html Q: I'm a student of visual communications and asked myself why links are blue. I found some answers that might be, for example blue is a color of learning, but I'm not sure what is right. Is there any reason, why links are colored blue ? A: There is no reason why one should use color, or blue, to signify links: it is just a default. I think the first WWW client (Wo…

  3. It logs requests to the site, which is far less invasive than the fine detail of browser fingerprinting and tracking that JS allows: JS can see your mouse pointer's position, how long you spent on each area of the page, which parts of the text you selected, and many many other things. 5. These obtrusive popups "enter your email to get newsletter", in the history of the web has even a single user opted to provide their email to such a popup? Yes. They're very effective at capturing people's email information. Shockingly so. https://www.crazyegg.com/blog/opt-pop-ups/

  7. This is pointless countering to an idea that is established for a reason, people reading above the fold only is largely true. But like the page says, don't take other people's word for it. But just because you shouldn't believe them that doesn't mean you should believe the opposite. If you really care about then TEST IT YOURSELF. Caps lock applied for the importance of the point. 15. I'd also recommend jumping head first and start looking at analytic solutions while going through blogs and books. I'm assuming you have a website already that you want to start crunching data from — beyond the obvious analytics.google.com, I'd recommend: http://www.clicktale.com/ (watch actual browsing behavior/generates heatmaps) http://www.crazyegg.com/ (another heatmap generator) http://ethnio.com/ (less about a…

  17. CrazyEgg[1], the click tracking tool, has a good interface that gives you a heatmap of how far people are scrolling down your page. It's very handy. [1]: http://www.crazyegg.com/
