What Hacker News says?

  1. They heard back from the company alright, they DMCA'd the post: https://infosec.exchange/@bobdahacker/115158347003096276 The screenshot of the email lacks detail so I don't know what part of the DMCA the author breached here, but this feels a lot like your standard DMCA abuse. This AI generated takedown was funded in part by a Y-Combinator: https://cyble.com/press/cyble-recognized-among-ai-startups-f...

  5. > We decided to take the post down after recieving a DMCA from burger king. The DCMA report was actually sent from response@cycle.com, and Cyble [1] appears to be a DCMA-takedown-as-a-service 'solution'. [1]: https://cyble.com/

  7. As far as I know, Android also doesn't have the same level of privacy requirements and permission prompts to show the user. Facebook et al. don't have much of a reason to push a third-party app store. In addition, exploitation might be transparent to the user, i.e. a botnet that runs in the background[0] or replacing ads in other apps to steal their revenue[1]. People use iOS and recommend it to their friends/family…

  9. It's not unusual to want to change certain behaviours of a project, e.g. by subclassing something within it. It's also worth at least having some idea of the code you're running before you run it, particularly if you don't know the developer, for many reasons but for e.g. [0]. I'm not really sold on the perspective that if you're a sophisticated enough developer to know+upload+publish on pypi that you wouldn't expec…
