Daniel D. Johnson's personal blog at hexahedria.com covers ai, math and programming. Since 2014, 8 different Hacker News readers have linked it 9 times, most often “Classical music generation with recurrent neural networks”. The last post was in 2023, but the archive is still widely read.
Too few sampled comments (4) to say how often HN recommends it.?
Why HN links it
HN readers link Daniel D. Johnson's personal site for its personal projects, including a refraction simulation, music generation with RNNs, and machine learning art. One commenter named it as a top personal project site.

HN discussionI'm quite sure I have seen other attempts to generate music with RNNs recently, although I don't remember exactly anymore. You don't cite that many references to other approaches, only the one from Boulanger-Lewandowski from 2012. I did a quick search, and I probably miss a lot, but I found these: http://papers.nips.cc/paper/5655-deep-temporal-sigmoid-belie... http://dl.acm.org/citation.cfm?id=2806383 http://gitxiv.…

HN discussionMy take (as someone working in the area) on how/why we are encouraged by this progress: The model is unconditional i.e. any concept of form at all was learned directly from data, with no real structural hints to what it should learn. Generally you get much stronger "global structure" the more prior information you provide either in the model itself or in the input/targets (such as chord constraints, etc.). This is o…

HN discussionVery nice! Looks like the author just started at HMC, from his about page. ( http://www.hexahedria.com/about/ ) Impressive kid.
