  3. You're making the mistake of thinking that Facebook's dominion ends when you close the facebook.com tab. - Facebook is tracking you over the whole web, building shadow profiles on everybody [1] - Facebook is known to have conducted illegal and unethical experiments on manipulating people's emotions via the timeline. Let that sink in for a moment [2] - Facebook is known to have had a partnership with Disqus for track…

  5. My colleagues (and probably twitter followers) are always sick of me ranting about stuff like this. A few years ago I decided to compile screenshots I'd posted on twitter in the previous single month : https://blog.dantup.com/2016/04/have-software-developers-giv... That it happens is bad enough, but the fact that so few care about it is reslly depressing :(

  11. But a template is not "regular old HTML". HTML is a standard for declaring marked up text. What Vue and similar libraries do is make adhoc variants of HTML (all different) with extra looping constructs and if/then constructs and so on. The templates also require embedding snippets of JavaScript code in them -- code which standard JavaScript/TypeScript IDE tools don't know about and so can't refactor, validate, or na…

  17. I wrote a blog post some time ago: http://blog.dantup.com/2014/05/web-development-sucks-and-its... And while responding to comments, I read a little more about Dart and it started to look quite appealing. I spend too much of my day maintaining and debugging legacy JavaScript written years ago in sub-optimal ways.
