  3. Curious if you've used Contentful ( http://contentful.com ) or Dato ( https://www.datocms.com ) yet - and if you have, what your biggest issues were with them. We've used Contentful extensively basically since it's inception, and have toyed around with Dato enough to know what the offering is. We have our own list of missing pieces for both but am always curious about other's experiences.

  5. Yes, there are lots now! There are some good ones, but some are definitely way pricier than I think they should be. With Next.js, you can even use Wordpress as a cms to back a static blog ( https://github.com/vercel/next.js/tree/canary/examples/cms-w... ) Just a few off the top of my head: - https://graphcms.com - https://prismic.io - https://www.sanity.io - https://www.datocms.com/ - https://www.cosmicjs.com/ More…

  7. If this is for a client that can't manage a static site themselves, then I would probably look into splitting out the content editing part. For example services like https://www.datocms.com/ let you publish to a separate static site generator.

It doesn't support translation AFAICT, but I've been playing with DatoCMS[0] and I've been happy with it for my needs. I suppose you probably could build a translation workflow on top of their API if you were feeling ambitious. [0] http://datocms.com/

Not just huge companies.. lots of web agencies [1] and mid-sized businesses use us to manage their web presence, mostly for the same reason: building custom sites quickly without the hassle of maintaining software. We’re not really optimized for huge websites (or customers). [1]: https://www.datocms.com/partners/showcase

Shameless plug, but if you plan to pair Next with an headless CMS, we (DatoCMS) make it super easy to handle responsive, progressive, lazy-loaded images with blur-up thumbs, as our edge CDN takes care of everything for you, without paying any cost at build time. https://www.datocms.com/blog/offer-responsive-progressive-lq...

We evaluated a dozen or so for work last year, and my two personal favorites were DatoCMS and GraphCMS (now called Hygraph). A bit more details in this thread here ( https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=32993835 ), but basically DatoCMS had a great out of the box editor experience, while Hygraph had a slightly better/more flexible data model and GraphQL mutability. There are a LOT of options out there now though...…

  19. Wow. Didn't expect this :) I was the author of this tiny extension back in the days (extension #201, I still remember it) together with a friend who recently passed away, Federico Parodi. We hacked the first version when we still didn't know much about JS, but it immediately exploded (500k daily users). Donations were super helpful at that time, being 22 years old with a newborn. After a couple of years (iirc) Nils…

  23. I think this is a task that is handled by an optional CMS, not the static site generator itself, though I agree it would be handy to have a little helper snippet to do that during build. There are CMS solutions for static sites which will probably handle images, and all kinds of content, easily. Check out Dato[1], Siteleaf[2] or Netlify CMS[3]. Alternatively you can use external tools to prepare your images and simp…

I'd recommend the following options. Both platforms offer enterprise solutions, but also provide free starter plans: https://www.storyblok.com/ https://www.datocms.com/ From own experience, the developer experience is awesome. Both are based in Europe, which is probably why those were not mentioned here before :)
