What Hacker News says?

  1. we use eCharts for all the visualizations in https://www.definite.app/ . We evaluated pretty much every option and it's the best non-react option. Recharts honestly seems a little nicer if you're using React, but our frontend is in Vue.

  5. A few features: * Built-in column level lineage (i.e. dump in 20 .sql files and crabwalk automatically figures out lineage) * Visualize the lineage * Clean handling of input / output (e.g. simply specify @config output and you can export results to parquet, csv, etc.) * Tests are not yet implemented, but crabwalk will have built-in support for tests (e.g. uniqueness, joins, etc.) we're using it in our product ( http…

  11. Had a similar experience with Superset. A few others have mentioned Metabase and I agree it's better, but if you're looking for a different approach to data, check out Definite ( https://www.definite.app/ ). It's a "data stack in a box". A few things we're doing differently: 1. Built-in data warehouse - We spin up a duckdb database for you to load data to 2. 500+ connectors - You don't need to buy a separate ETL and…

  13. I used local LLMs via Ollama for generating H1's / marketing copy. 1. Create several different personas 2. Generate a ton of variation using a high temperature 3. Compare the variagtions head-to-head using the LLM to get a win / loss ratio The best ones can be quite good. 0 - https://www.definite.app/blog/overkillm

  15. yeah, glad the hype around big data is dead. Not a lot of solid numbers in here, but this post covers it well[0]. We have duckdb embedded in our product[1] and it works perfectly well for billions of rows of a data without the hadoop overhead. 0 - https://motherduck.com/blog/big-data-is-dead/ 1 - https://www.definite.app/

  23. the short answer: use a semantic layer. It's the cleanest way to give the right context and the best place to pull a human in the loop. A human can validate and create all important metrics (e.g. what does "monthly active users" really mean) then an LLM can use that metric definition whenever asked for MAU. With a semantic layer, you get the added benefit of writing queries in JSON instead of raw SQL. LLM's are much…

  27. > I've built 12+ production AI agent systems across development, DevOps, and data operations It's hard to make *one* good product (see startup failure rates). You couldn't make 12 (as seemingly a solo dev?) and you're surprised? we've been working on Definite[0] for 2 years with a small team and it only started getting really good in the past 6 months. 0 - data stack + AI agent: https://www.definite.app/

  29. Some things we've[0] learned on agent design: 1. If your agent needs to write a lot of code, it's really hard to beat Claude Code (cc) / Agent SDK. We've tried many approaches and frameworks over the past 2 years (e.g. PydanticAI), but using cc is the first that has felt magic. 2. Vendor lock-in is a risk, but the bigger risk is having an agent that is less capable then what a user gets out of chatgpt because you're…
