I've recently switched, as it ticks all boxes for me: simple, markdown, custom domain, ssl, reasonably priced. https://dpc.pw/

HN discussionI'm saddened to see you getting downvoted too (and I've tried to compensate for that). You're right that more ecosystems need something like Crev: https://dpc.pw/cargo-crev-and-rust-2019-fearless-code-reuse

HN discussion> Then when you gut the HTML for UI overhaul, if the functionality hasn’t changed, How often website redesigns are only about html? Usually everything changes. New flows, new dialogs, new toolbars, new frameworks. Often the web UI gets and Android UI and iOS UI siblings. Gets replaced altogether by a completely different UI, developed by a different team. APIs change much less often, and can be shared between many U…

HN discussionIt would have been better if OOP actually never happened. OOP is just reaaaaly bad. One of this ideas that looks appealing, but doesn't work in practice. Inheritance is often a space-goat, but it's not even such a big of a problem with OOP. Core ideas behind OOP are misguided: Abstraction Encapsulation Inheritance Polymorphism Encapsulation on a such a fine-grained level as each object/class is like a person putting…

HN discussionCongratulations. One of my main critiques of Urbit was that I've been waiting years for something more widely usable and it seems that finally things are turning around. There's a lot of very shallow and superficial negative opinions about Urbit, while it's one of the most interesting projects being developed online, IMO. I do have my own set of criticism (see: https://dpc.pw/pragrammatic-critique-of-urbit ), but ov…

HN discussionPlease see https://twitter.com/dpc_pw/status/1240719977071575040 for description how OOP + ORM business code falls apart in practice, then https://dpc.pw/opportunistic-programming for what I encourage. Then more posts there if you're still interested.

HN discussionMy approach is: You decompose it into services and actors passing messages (remote vs local), withing each running an imperative shell over FP domain logic. HN discussionThere's some more background and vision for this software in this blog post talking specifically about the Rust ecosystem: https://dpc.pw/cargo-crev-and-rust-2019-fearless-code-reuse It also has some nicer narrative examples.

HN discussionI prefer this post by the author: https://dpc.pw/growing-object-oriented-software-vs-what-i-wo... There he writes about the OOP book he actually liked. (edit) The author adds how he would build the system presented in the book in a functional core imperative shell style. Reminds me of my (and others) favourite OOP language Erlang/Elixir.

HN discussionThat's an overly pessimistic interpretation of the survey. :D With soon to be released "Rust 2018 Edition", quite a bit of mechanism are even easier to use on day to day basis. I suspect that a lot of people that "can't get into Rust", are just bringing a baggage of OOP habits. I suspect it, because Rust (or rather struggles to structure my Rust code), were the main catalyst that made me fully realize why and how OO…
