  1. Nothing to feel bad about. Thank you for sharing that too. My son’s life changed my own in profound ways, and even though he died four years ago, he is still changing my life in profound ways. I am always grateful for the reminder and to reconnect with the purpose that his life gave to mine. That post also reminds me that while he was alive, I did the best I could for him under my abilities, and that’s all any paren…

  3. I've been in your shoes, but for my son, who ended up being the first case ever discovered of his particular genetic disorder. I'm happy to help. I written down an Algorithm for Precision Medicine that abstracted the journey all the way from diagnosis to treatment: https://bertrand.might.net/articles/algorithm-for-precision-... My day job is now to help patients like your partner all day every day at the Precision M…

  9. Bertrand's father here. I'm humbled to see his page show up on HN. HN was one of the sites that first picked up Bertrand's story years ago and it played a big role is several of the events that followed, such as when he was confirmed to be the first and (then) only patient in the world with his ultra-rare genetic disorder. The subsequent explosion on social media led to the discovery of other patients; to an acceler…

  11. Matt.Might.net has had many submissions to HN [1]. Professor Might pivoted from CS to medicine on account of his family's success figuring out Bertrand Might's (their first-born son) medical problem. Further context for this link is provided in HN-moderator dang's comment on a 2018 submission about the family's efforts to improve diagnosis and treatment for rare diseases: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1796257…

  16. I’m grateful to whoever posted this. Unfortunately it appears that Bertrand passed away in 2020 from septic shock, but he was able to develop much better after his diagnosis. There’s more information at https://bertrand.might.net/ for anyone curious.
