  3. Lazy loading is helpful but if the img tags' sizes attribute is mucked up then less is gained. That is for example, due to the sizes the browser is led to believe it needs an image that's 100vw when the actual width is 25vw. This happen quite a bit with WordPress. Here's a great article on sizes and srcset. https://ericportis.com/posts/2014/srcset-sizes/ Editorial: Personally, my fear (based on history) is this will…

  7. Actually afaik, there are accessibility issues with that solution. Instead, stick with img and use object-fit instead. https://css-tricks.com/almanac/properties/o/object-fit/ I'd also suggest reading this. Having to write ultra-complicated media queries (width + resolution, etc.) feels friction-y. Instead, use sizes and scrset and the browser will take care of the rest. https://ericportis.com/posts/2014/srcset-sizes/

  9. > So, with these attributes in place, the browser will: - Look at its device width. - Work out which media condition in the sizes list is the first one to be true. - Look at the slot size given to that media query. - Load the image referenced in the srcset list that has the same size as the slot or, if there isn't one, the first image that is bigger than the chosen slot size. > --- Where many people's understanding…

  11. Indeed. Although... I've the jpeg2000 book and it's quite thick, nice read, but no wonder implementation stalls. And does it work with current browsers? https://ericportis.com/posts/2014/resolution-progressive-jpe...
