  5. > I can see a name and match that to an import and match that to a package. Grabbing a function pointer works exactly as I would expect. Autoloading is one of the worst features ever introduced into a language/framework. https://erock.io/2021/11/01/on-autoloading.html

  7. Running arch with wayland and sway on a framework. Setting up sleep-then-hibernate via systemd works beautifully. I only lose a few % overnight. That’s the thing with running Linux as a desktop, you’ve gotta tweak it to get it just right. Battery life is a non issue for me on the framework. The speakers on the other hand is a brutal downgrade. More thoughts here comparing a 2018 mbp: https://erock.io/2021/11/01/fram…

  9. I also have a framework laptop and love it. Article I wrote about it: https://erock.io/2021/11/01/framework-vs-mbp.html Battery life will be an issue for OP. Also, the speakers are by far the worst feature.

  11. FE web developer is one of a kind and there are good reasons for that. I keep seeing the same responses pop up all the time so I decided to write my thoughts down on why FE web dev is a black swan in software development: https://erock.io/2021/03/27/my-love-letter-to-front-end-web-...

  15. I see it as the complete opposite. Because of the unique challenges that face front end development it has attracted some extremely talented people. I wrote my thoughts about this in a recent article: https://erock.io/2021/03/27/my-love-letter-to-front-end-web-...

  17. I created a hugo blog as well ( https://erock.io ). It's been a great outlet for me to express myself. It has been on the FP of HN before which was a ton of fun to see the metrics. However, I totally agree that maintaining the blog has been a bit of a chore and since I wanted to write more I feel like it is actually hindering me. I'm slowly transitioning to use https://prose.sh (disclaimer, I helped build it) exclus…

  23. I used to think the FE ecosystem was vitriolic and full of potentially unnecessary change. I think there are some really good reasons for that which are described here https://erock.io/2021/03/27/my-love-letter-to-front-end-web-... Having started to work more in dev ops lately, I no longer think this problem is unique to FE. The number of tools used in the dev ops scene makes my head spin. There are hundreds of prod…

  25. For my FE projects I employ a module based code structure. If you import a module, you get the whole thing. This lends itself to many positives but one negative is it makes it easy to run into circular dependencies. I wrote an article discussing my architecture and how I solve circular dependencies in js. https://erock.io/scaling-js-codebase-multiple-platforms/ In the article I argue that circular dependencies are a…
