What Hacker News says?

  1. Well there’s docker. You’d have to expose X to the container ( http://fabiorehm.com/blog/2014/09/11/running-gui-apps-with-d... ) Or https://www.flatpak.org/ Edit: hmm apparently there’s also https://firejail.wordpress.com/

  5. It is possible to use docker/lxc as a Vagrant provider. This means when you run 'vagrant up', your 'machine' could be a lxc container instead of a VirtualBox VM. https://github.com/dotcloud/docker/issues/404 http://fabiorehm.com/blog/2013/04/28/lxc-provider-for-vagran...

  9. Stick with docker if possible, you will get more performance among other benefits. Check excellent Phusion's base image [0] if you need (pardon me) "container like VM". For the gui: Docker has native Kitematic app [1], but not sure about state on linux. I would recommend you to check Shipyard project [2] as Docker Gui Docker also support containerized X11 desktop apps [3]. [0] https://github.com/phusion/baseimage-do…
