What Hacker News says?
Keep on using Dropbox. If you use all that proprietary, anti-privacy rubbish then you can assume they can access to all your information anyway. On the bright side, I wouldn't worry too much about the NSA browsing through your cat pics. Or if you're willing to put in some work you can try something like this https://fak3r.com/2009/09/14/howto-build-your-own-open-sourc...

HN discussionAn issue not mentioned in this is that at the office it is routine to MITM TLS connections, what some call "TLS inspection".[FN1] There are important reasons for performing TLS inspection aside from "developers testing their smartphone app" or "security research". HN discussionIt works alright for file sharing and it's nifty to be able to start torrents remotely. I was hoping for it to become a Dropbox replacement, but unfortunately file transfers are pretty slow over WebDAV. I was thinking of hacking up something with rsync so it would work more like Dropbox (synced local copies). Has anyone tried anything like this before? http://fak3r.com/2009/09/14/howto-build-your-own-open-source...

HN discussionI was very interested in this back in the day, in fact, I wrote a HOWTO to get the desktop bit run under Ubuntu: https://fak3r.com/2006/01/31/howto-mezzo-desktop-on-ubuntu/ I'm sure that's not going to work anymore, but I got a lot of questions and comments about that post, there was significant interest. Here's hoping a new release comes out in January and people can try it out.
