  1. Flatiron School (now part of WeWork) | Software Engineers, esp. Seniors | New York, NY (NYC) | ONSITE | FULL-TIME Hi, I'm the Engineering Director on the Product/Engineering team at the Flatiron School. I joined the team about four months ago as part of a general scaling up of the team (we're currently about 25 devs and growing) and love it. We mostly work on Learn, a modern Learning Management System that runs the…

  3. I wonder if a new position will emerge to help with freshly trained programmers out of programs / curriculum like this. For instance, if a company is willing to pay 100k for an experienced programmer with years of training and experience, what is a fair rate for fresh grads out of a coding boot camp? The trouble, to me, seems that freshly boot camp trained folks apply to the same jobs and it just doesn't make sense.…

  6. Flatiron School has published an audited 3rd party job report about the success of our graduates. http://flatironschool.com/jobs-report-2014 AFAIK we're the only school to actually do that and not just talk about it. Additionally, if you're into more of a narrative, check out our annual report. http://far.flatironschool.com/ Judge for yourself. <3 // Avi Flombaum

There is a nascent organization called the Council on Integrity in Results Reporting [0] that some bootcamps / code schools belong to. This is probably the best resource for such data. I think Flatiron School's jobs reports [1] come closest to setting a good example. No affiliation, just researching schools. [0] http://cirr.org [1] https://flatironschool.com/outcomes

I'm a student at Flatiron School[1] NYC (where we have electricity in NYC, no small feat today) and this project came about when we were learning to setup our CLIs in the first week. Please let me know if you have any comments/feedback on twitter: @rexfeng [1] http://flatironschool.com/

  10. If you're finding part-time study too slow, there are a number of non-academic contexts in which you can study code full time. Despite the reputation, there are some web-dev bootcamps that have good placement rates. A few in the US: 1) http://www.fullstackacademy.com/ 2) http://www.hackreactor.com/ 3) http://flatironschool.com/ If you're a woman, there's the deferred tuition (no charge until you have a job) option:…

  12. As a side note to the article, it's interesting to contrast the author's RoR school ( http://flatironschool.com/ ) where the goal is to get people from zero to junior level with that of Hacker School ( https://www.hackerschool.com/ ) that wants to take people from average to "ninja-rockstar" level (or at least a better engineer). I don't think that the goal of having more junior level engineers out there is a bad on…

  13. ... you can learn to code! Couple options: If you need something not too intensive you could go with Treehouse ( http://teamtreehouse.com/ ) which has really good topic-specific videos and interactive quizzes. If you can afford the money and time then go with something more intensive such as a bootcamp - I recommend Flatiron School ( http://flatironschool.com/ ). You'll learn a whole lot in 3 months. There's also Th…

Richard Feldman states in a video aiming to explain the popularity of OOP that Python initially had a small community for decades, and that Python's increase in popularity followed a slow and steady increase, which is not true of many other languages like Ruby.
