Too few sampled comments (6) to say how often HN recommends it.?

Why HN links it

Posts on cross-compiling Zig and C libraries, password storage with DBIx::Class, ORMs, PostgREST and ODBC, and process supervisors such as systemd. Commenters link them as related references.

Summarised by Claude from a sample of 6 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

What Hacker News says?

  1. My use cases similar to this https://blog.afoolishmanifesto.com/posts/golang-zig-cross-co... need to bundle a lot of C libraries, some using dynamic linking and some using static linking, and I need to deploy them on different operating systems, including some that are difficult to work with like RHEL. Right now the builds are slow because I use a separate Dockerfile for each platform and then copy the binary back t…

  3. And with DBIx::Class it is almost easier to do it right[1] than wrong. [1] https://blog.afoolishmanifesto.com/posts/do-passwords-right/

  7. Well the problem is, if you don't use an ORM, you'll invent one yourself...only poorly. And new hires will end up taking a ton of time to learn this "custom" orm framework of yours. And there are many bad, or simply, "too simple" ORMs out there that really don't help you much. I haven't really found one better than Perl's DBIx::Class (though outside of Java, Python, Ruby, I have haven't really looked). Case in point…

  9. ODBC+FreeTDS is not generally a good idea. Microsoft's ODBC driver works fine though. https://blog.afoolishmanifesto.com/posts/install-and-configu... explains how to get it going on debian.
