  3. What's the issue with nginx-proxy? We've used it for years to handle CI deploying multiple multiple Docker compose Apps to the same server [1] without issue, with a more detailed writeup at [2]. This served us well for many years before migrating to use Kamal [3] for its improved remote management features. 5. The Alt.Net movement is a powerful force; always looking for better ways of doing things no matter where that alternative might come from. So if it's something new from Microsoft, that's great - if it's an approach from the open source world or an alternate language or somewhere else entirely then that's great too. Xamarin deserves particular mention as the ability to share 80-90% of your core codebase between all m…

  7. Couple of things that might help you in dealing with the ASP.net stack: REST - ignore WebApi and jump straight into ServiceStack. Deployment - Octopus is your best friend IIS - if you really hate IIS then run .net on Linux with Mono. http://www.servicestack.net/ http://octopusdeploy.com/documentation/getting-started

  11. Thanks to its simplicity for development and hosting SQLite has become our first choice for new Apps. We use a number of different ways to workaround its single concurrent writer limitation [1]. Whilst we're currently using Litestream for replication, we're currently evaluating switching to SQLite's native rsync [2]. 13. We're also ignoring Kubernetes and are just using GitHub Actions, Docker Compose and SSH for our CI Deployments [1]. After a one-time setup on the Deployment Server, we can deploy new Apps with just a few GitHub Action Secrets, which then gets redeployed on every commit, including running any DB Migrations. We're currently using this to deploy and run over 50 .NET Apps across 3 Hetzner VMs. [1] https://servicestack.…

  21. Been a happy Hetzner customer for over a decade, previously using their dedicated servers in their German DC's before migrating to their Cloud US VMs for better latency with the US. Slightly disappointed with their recent cuts of their generous 20TB free traffic down to 3TB (€1.19 per additional TB), but they still look to be a lot better value than all other US cloud providers we've evaluated. Whilst I wouldn't run…

Where Blazor's Enhanced Navigation still gives you SPA-like navigation without any heavy client state, no client-side routing, no client build tools, no large download bundles in SPAs, etc. Blazor static rendering provides a great UX for rendering static content, Streaming Rendering is great for pages that needing to dynamically update and any pages r…

  29. Reasons why I no longer prefer SPA's: - Build tools are complex - Large FX's have 100's of npm dependencies - Every SPA I've created has suffered from bitrot overtime, including: - Often breaking changes on upgrade, incompatibility between package versions - Dependencies/tools/fxs often abandoned, rewritten, replaced, etc - Constantly wasting time working around issues - Doesn't scale, the larger the App, the slower…
