  3. I use Cloudflare for mine ( https://www.garysieling.com/blog ) - they catch 75% of the requests. For sections that are rarely hit, you'd still get 404's from downtime, and there are more valid URLs to pages on a Wordpress site than you'd think.

  5. My experience has been that making better content is great for getting more readers, but not for SEO, which in the long term is fine because it removes the risk of having to chase algorithm changes. When I switched from writing to fill holes in search results to writing for specific communities (including g+ groups) my readership shot up, but the SEO part has stayed pretty flat. It's possible I have something set up…

  7. I did some analysis once about a year ago, and found that a large number of domains were inactive. http://garysieling.com/blog/one-third-site-auctions-abandone... It's possible this analysis is over-estimated (e.g. could be defects in the scraping process) but I was surprised even just checking domains randomly how many were later abandoned. I suspect that there are a lot of sites that use various techniques to fake…

  11. I did a write-up of something similar recently with Postgres, although I didn't do it with the key-value store types (i.e. hstore or json). The value of this is it shows you how you can use some of the built-in types - I don't know how it scales to 100 MM records though. http://www.garysieling.com/blog/postgres-time-travelling-deb...
