  1. For those of you already using emacs, this mirrors my workflow in mu4e. Here are some screenshots[0], and here is a guide on how to set up mu4e[1]. [0] https://www.djcbsoftware.nl/code/mu/mu4e.html [1] http://cachestocaches.com/2017/3/complete-guide-email-emacs-...

  3. Be careful with font recommendations that aren't really geared for the web! Tufte is pretty particular about the fonts in his book, but they don't transfer well to the web. I also liked the tufts-css style, but ended up rolling my own, so that the widths worked out to be a bit more typographically "acceptable" (shameless plug for my blog layout: http://www.cachestocaches.com/2017/3/complete-guide-email-em... )

  5. Love the Tufte style. One real limitation, however, is the "mobile view" in which the margin notes collapse into clickable superscript numbers. I don't think it's clear to most readers that one is supposed to click on those to expand them, meaning they aren't likely read by perhaps 50% of your readers. One thing I've seen, and adapted for my own site [1], is inserting these margin notes beneath the paragraph in mobi…

  9. I was a paralegal a number of years back and, due to my experience as a coder, I was able to automate a bunch of my responsibilities. Much of the job of a paralegal (and some of the responsibilities of a lawyer) are things like data entry and records keeping that are trivially automated. One of my most popular tasks was to take data from Doc X in format A and move it to Doc Y in format B. Some string parsing (with h…

  11. > “We need”, Jure said emphatically, “to step up and come up with the means to evaluate – vet – algorithms in unbiased ways. We need to be able to interpret and explain their decisions. We don’t want an optimal algorithm. We want one simple enough that an expert can look at it and say nothing crazy is happening here. As someone who works with machine learning, I find this statement rather misleading. The researcher…

  13. They are a bit all over the place - I started this years ago so I don't really have anything solid, but searching gives a few results that looks pretty solid ([1] [2]). If you temporarily tried doom [3], I think you could see how it would work for you. You need to install something like isync as well so you have a mailbox index locally. I would start with just one account - multiple accounts is a bit more effort. In…

  15. I would recommend giving mu4e a try. It is pretty fast and you can also use mu too. If you need help initially getting things setup: http://cachestocaches.com/2017/3/complete-guide-email-emacs-... https://emacs.stackexchange.com/questions/12927/reading-and-... A good benefit to using these terminal based type apps is you are able to see more information up front so you are not so susceptible to web based phishing ex…
