hblok.net is a personal blog at hblok.net about hardware and data. Since 2018, 3 different Hacker News readers have linked it 3 times. No feed was found, so read it on the site itself.
Too few sampled comments (2) to say how often HN recommends it.?
Why HN links it
HN readers link this blog as a source for historical and current storage and memory price data, used to discuss computing costs, such as the cost of storing blockchain data. The comments only cite it, without judging the writing.
Summarised by Claude from a sample of 2 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

What Hacker News says?
https://hblok.net/blog/storage/ says it would have been about $100,000. I don't know if those are in constant dollars, but I suspect they are 1975 dollars. If so, then $100K(1975) is $500K(2018). Edit: I found a reference to the 1MB PDP-10 at MIT in 1979! https://www.filfre.net/2012/01/zil-and-the-z-machine/ mentions "Zork, a massive game that consumed 1 MB of memory on the PDP-10".

HN discussionAs mentioned, the problem is that increasing that value enough to matter could increase the storage/etc costs of monitoring the blockchain to an extent that would be prohibitive for many people. If those costs come down then the "efficiency" can be increased without any impact. It looks like in the last decade they dropped about 10-100x: https://hblok.net/storage_data/storage_memory_prices-2017-12... http://drpeerin…
