What Hacker News says?

  1. I've ran into this signing issue a few years ago when trying to distribute a binary for applications (tips, if you need to do so here: https://henvic.dev/posts/cs-security/ ), and while it's a hassle for developers I really appreciate that this is making using computer applications safer. The next step is naturally adding boundaries about what applications can do just akin to containers, sandboxes, or permissions fo…

  7. UUIDs are very wasteful [1]. For most use cases you can replace them with much shorter strings and still have very low chances of collisions [2] [1] https://henvic.dev/posts/uuid/ [2] https://alex7kom.github.io/nano-nanoid-cc/

  9. > Fiat currencies administered by competent central bankers have the attractive feature that their governance can be used as a tool to cool excesses and calm panics when the credit cycle goes through its inevitable revolutions. No. Gold standard has none of the properties you told. Fiat currency is a disaster and evil. Besides, it's also likely the only reason why cryptocurrency is drawing attention to anyone. https…

  13. I'd advice you stop charging and just place Amazon ads on your page. Besides being safer as people said, it'd easily generate more money for you. Ads are not "worse", and it's going to be safer for you, and you could've made a lot more money from it because people would go to your website and many would download it, even if they feel they don't need it... Also, many people are interested in noise canceling headphone…

  17. Henrique Vicente (henvic, the person you are replying to) wrote what is basically a 5 page essay on how much he dislikes Bitcoin in 2021: https://henvic.dev/posts/bitcoin/ Basically parroting the same thing other people have been saying for years, absolutely no unique insight. He is so angry he missed the train, he just had to let it all out. Don't worry Henrique, Bitcoin will go to $0 any day now!

  19. Why a thief? Bitcoin is a silly idea based on scarcity that doesn't exist. If someone generated the right numbers by chance and had luck, I wouldn't say they'd be doing anything wrong getting whatever is there. It's not the same as stealing data, and is not the same as hacking into a banking system. It's decentralized, and there isn't the concept of real scarcity. It's not even hacking. https://henvic.dev/posts/bitc…

To give you some context about how migration can impact salary: I made this spreadsheet during 2018 when I was trying to make a case for a raise that never happened. https://drive.google.com/file/d/18D1aAM0bTx4vLSDonpImtIfYR4T... In 2019 I resigned from my previous employer (an American company growing fast and short of 1000 employees nowadays). I moved to the Netherlands to work on a startup (that pays average for…
