What Hacker News says?

  1. I never see popol [1] mentioned in these discussions: Popol is designed as a minimal ergonomic wrapper around poll, built for use cases such as peer-to-peer networking, where you typically have no more than a few hundred concurrent connections. It’s meant to be familiar enough for those with experience using mio, but a little easier to use, and a lot smaller. It shows a lot of promise. [1]: https://cloudhead.io/popo…

  3. I don't have any reference material/tutorials, but my major breakthrough with Vim was when I understood that normal mode is the norm. Anytime you're not entering text, be in normal mode. Remap jk or jj to escape. Get in the habit of typing it whenever you're done adding text. Use hjkl for movement instead of the arrow keys. Learn the f,t, and o commands. http://cloudhead.io/2010/04/24/staying-the-hell-out-of-inser...

  5. I'll indications point to this GitHub user [1], Alexis Sellier [2], as the engineer behind this. Good luck with such an ambitious goal. I'd love to see it. [1]: https://github.com/cloudhead [2]: https://cloudhead.io/

  9. I've been using something very similar for my blog for the past month or so, it's called Toto. Flat file, git, Ruby, Markdown, Disqus, etc. Check it out: http://cloudhead.io/toto and a good post on how to get up and running http://fadeyev.net/2010/05/10/getting-started-with-toto/ . It was really fast and simple to go from 0 to blogging. The default template is nice too (jlank.com)

  13. Does OS X even let you turn off an external monitor yet? (Via a control panel setting or other software driven interface?) In Linux and Windows I can use the OS to turn it off. The Mac forces me to unplug the monitor or power it off manually. Didn't OS X users just get the ability to resize windows by any edge or corner? They only had to wait 10 years for that wonderful feature. How about being able to properly repl…

To become a vim power user, you will really need to understand how and why vim works the way it does and how you should think about editing while using vim. Once you have gone through some of the great tutorials on basic vim usage take a look at these: Stay out of insert mode: http://cloudhead.io/2010/04/24/staying-the-hell-out-of-inser... Good explanation of how vim commands are actually formulated (Stack Overflow…

  19. Ok. Making a resume: If you're a ruby-mentality guy and have some money for hosting then check these out (in no specific order): Enki - https://github.com/xaviershay/enki Toto - http://cloudhead.io/toto Jekyll - http://jekyllrb.com Nanoc - http://nanoc.stoneship.org Timeless - http://timeless.judofyr.net/timeless Otherwise... Just use Posterous. :P

  20. Thanks for your comment. I have to say I am a bit hurt by Wordpress UX and (no flamewar intended) its PHPness. I think I am going for Posterous. If I could host my own blog there are three interesting options I would ponder: toto - http://cloudhead.io/toto jekyll - http://jekyllrb.com timeless - http://timeless.judofyr.net/timeless
