Why HN links it

HN readers link HotWhopper as a rebuttal to climate-skeptic claims, mainly Roy Spencer's temperature graphs and model comparisons, and also to an actor's climate remarks.

Summarised by Claude from a sample of 7 HN comments that link here. Each comment is marked recommending, critical or neutral (citing without judging); how this works.

Global warming & climate change. Eavesdropping on climate science deniers, their weird pseudo-science and crazy conspiracy theories.

  6. Another take on the graph, shown here: http://blog.hotwhopper.com/2014/02/roy-spencers-latest-decei... It's been speculated on RealClimate that Roy Spencer is continuing to use the highest emission scenario for these comparisons, which is not made clear on his site.

  8. I'm afraid the graph in that article has been carefully designed to deceive you. Unfortunately it's something that is not easy to spot unless you are familiar with temperature anomaly graphs. Roy picks a baseline of 1979-83, which is unusual (I've never seen any other anomaly graphs plotted using that baseline, and it's especially strange since the graph only begins in 1983). The reason he does that is that during t…
