What Hacker News says?
I think a better approach would be to use annotations on the current AWS docs so that additional information is inline with the official documentation so you have both in the same place. The Hypothesis project is working on such a browser plugin that does this for example and is having success with academic research already. https://hypothes.is/

HN discussionhttps://hypothes.is supports threaded comments on anything with a URI; including PDFs and specific sentences or figures thereof. All you have to do is register an account and install the browser extension or include the JS in the HTML. It's based on open standards and an open platform. HN discussionhttps://rolandog.com I had taken it down, but — as I'm learning everything Emacs — I'm in the middle of recreating it with project.el and org-mode... comments be damned... So, there's very little of value at the moment. However, I've been thinking about inviting people to add annotations with https://hypothes.is

HN discussionThis is such a great project. The potential here is just immense. I wish dwhly and everyone at hypothes.is the best of luck. P.S. This url - https://hypothes.is/register - accessible from most pages by clicking "sign up" in the top-right corner, presents an error and doesn't redirect anywhere. https://hypothes.is/signup works fine, however.

HN discussion> The blog post is put out by a company I've never heard of, and the credits listed on it include nobody who works on a browser… By the way, the Genius team is backed by Marc Andreessen. While Genius and Hypothesis aren't formally related, the two annotation products are very similar just for different audiences. Tim Berners-Lee is even featured in the video at the end of the post. This is kind of a crazy comment to…

HN discussionIn terms of controlling for trolls/spam, etc annotation service providers will need to use the same combination of automatic filtering and editorial or community moderation that are relied on widely elsewhere. The success of any individual service will presumably at least partly depend on how good of a job they do. Ultimately annotation is something that readers choose to enable by adding to their browser, and by ch…

HN discussionJournals and publishers should start focusing on creating value out of their community: the authors and readers they've attracted. http://hypothes.is/ is a nonprofit that makes annotation tech that some are using to publish peer-reviews, not just the article. I think that's pretty cool. Give the content away for free (you have to/should), but focus on having the best community around it.

HN discussion> I wish there was some kind of service or plugin (preferably not based on a centralized service) where one could easily leave comments on any site even if the site itself did not support comments. Not exactly for comments, but look at https://hypothes.is it is for collaborative note taking

HN discussionIt was just a few days ago when I mentioned how often I see the dragon book held up as a punching bag. It seems that at some point the book, along with K&R, have become the target for unsubstantiated criticism. I've pressed for details, and I've seen others do the same, but it never ends in anything concrete—just an implicit appeal to the new conventional wisdom that they do more harm than good. Reminds me of how "t…

HN discussionThe reason why Wikipedia has these pages is because people push fringe science theories, jingoist distortions of history, and inflated product claims if you do not. Even so, Wikipedia is effectively used to promote just these things. For example, the editor FT2 got promoted to ArbCom while underming efforts to eliminate pseudoscience. His philsophy he summed up "Writing for an encyclopedia is not the same as writing…
