HN discussioni am also a "fan" of the home-made air purifier. we had a bunch of them around our house over the fire season this summer. it's helpful to compare the numbers: https://igor.moomers.org/minimal-viable-air-quality if you want to build your own monitor, i still have a bunch of PMS7003 sensors around. ping me if you want to grab one in berkeley

HN discussiona better solution than doing DNS trickery is just doing proxying, but this requires some other machine to serve as the proxy. i serve my github pages blog on multiple domains, as described here: http://igor.moomers.org/github-pages:-proxying-and-redirects...

HN discussionAgreed. I used json-e back in the day, and have been using pulumi more recently, though my pulumi configs are simpler and I'm not sure how well it scales to really complex workloads/job graphs. https://igor.moomers.org/posts/building-etl-kubernetes

HN discussionI like using my blog to experiment with technology. I used to use GitHub pages and wrote some tips about using it with custom domains: https://igor.moomers.org/posts/github-pages-proxying-and-red... But then I wanted to play with nextjs + typescript, have total control over how everything works, and host it myself in a container so I wrote a little static generator with next: https://github.com/igor47/blog I think t…

HN discussionThe fires in Northern California the past few years have been a little better, but at their worst e.g. 2020, everyone had these box fans with filters taped on. I always wondered how effective those were at filtering contaminants ( I know they were effective at removing pollutants because I tested: https://igor.moomers.org/posts/minimal-viable-air-quality )

on “Testing a cheaper laminar flow hood”The problem with this article is it assumes you control how an app wants secrets. In my stacks, I end up running a bunch of services that all have different configuration paradigms. This is why I wrote the dcsm to help me store encrypted secrets in git, template them into environment or config files, and need only to distribute the decryption key out of band. https://igor.moomers.org/posts/secrets-in-docker-compose

on “I built an expandable solar roof for my Tesla”I do get kind of annoyed that htmx submits forms using form url encoding. It's non trivial to validate, see https://igor.moomers.org/posts/zod-schemas-htmx As a result for POST requests you have to have htmx routes that accept urlencode and API routes that accept JSON, and JSON is far superior. But for outputs I actually think separating your UI and API is helpful. The code reuse is not worth the entanglement of con…

on “Let's Make the Worst Htmx”i've been thinking of running something similar in my stack for the last few years, and this thread got me to finally figure it out. i ended up implementing an approach that works for me without any additional services beyond what i was already running. documented here: https://igor.moomers.org/posts/basic-tunnel
