What Hacker News says?

  1. Kivy is really cool, but getting started on it sort of sucks. Lots of compilation errors (especially if you're trying to install on windows) due to its dependencies on pygame (and therefore cython, and therefore a particular version of MSVS for the specific dll... all a hassle). The on-site tutorials are sort of obtuse too, if you're looking to do UIs rather than games - until other resources[1][2] became available,…

  5. Wayland is a protocol, X11 is both protocol and a library. X11 client has much less functionality than Wayland compositor. Writing Wayland compositor is usually done with wlroots library to handle barebone stuff, but it has its own flaws: https://inclem.net/2021/04/17/wayland/writing_a_wayland_comp...

  7. I think it's still generally the case that Kivy apps tend to use the default (clunky) theme or something more custom, but there has recently been some user activity around alternatives, e.g. a set material design themed widgets ( https://github.com/kivymd/KivyMD ). I'm not sure if any apps using this have been published on the Play store. We've been discussing how to include more unified themeing capabilities in Kiv…
